Tree Consultancy
Supporting your development while protecting trees and complying with planning requirements
Trees are an important consideration in any development or land project. They contribute beauty, biodiversity, and long-term value, but they also come with legal protections and planning requirements. At WildBirch, we provide expert tree consultancy to help you navigate these considerations confidently.
Our services include BS5837:2012 surveys and reports (‘Trees in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction – Recommendations’), which are often required by Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) as part of the planning process.
We also advise on the protection of ancient woodlands, ancient and veteran trees, and other significant trees. LPAs must assess potential impacts on these trees when reviewing planning applications, and restrictions or conditions may be applied to safeguard them.
If a tree, group of trees, or woodland is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), it is unlawful to carry out any work without prior consent from the LPA. Similarly, trees within a conservation area (not covered by a TPO) are protected under Section 211 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, and a Section 211 Notice must usually be submitted six weeks before work begins.
WildBirch assesses all these factors as part of the BS5837 process, helping to identify opportunities and constraints for each site and guiding your development proposals with confidence.
